Fashable provides an environment to help retailers design circular and sustainable lifecycles for their apparel from material options to end of life solutions and to measure and report environmental impact.

Recycling Program Components

A successful Recycling Program includes a structured collection system for waste segregation, followed by sorting and processing into reusable materials. Public awareness and education initiatives promote responsible recycling, while business and industry partnerships support sustainable waste management. Government regulations and policies enforce recycling mandates, and waste reduction strategies such as composting and reusables further minimize waste. Continuous monitoring and evaluation ensure program efficiency and long-term success.

Waste Reduction Strategies

Effective waste reduction strategies include minimizing single-use items, composting organic waste, and adopting a minimalist consumption approach. Choosing sustainable packaging, repairing and repurposing items, and buying in bulk help reduce waste generation. Digital alternatives, donation and reuse, and promoting producer responsibility further support sustainability. Additionally, smart food management prevents food waste, ensuring efficient resource use.

Problem Statement

Fast fashion makes shopping for clothes more affordable, but it comes at an environmental cost to everyone. The fashion industry produces 10% of all humanity’s carbon emissions. On average, consumers bought 60% more garments in 2014 than they did in 2000. 85% of all textiles go to the dumpsters each year. Washing polyester clothes sends 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year (equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles). 35% of all microplastics in the ocean came from the laundering of synthetic textiles like polyester. When surveyed, more than half (52%) of consumers in the UK and US want the fashion industry to become more sustainable. Consumers want products that use renewable and recyclable materials, are designed to last longer and use fewer resources. Fashion companies value chain is not transparent, where materials come from, how much emission is produced and how long products last is not clear.
